An 11-strong £2m fleet of new Mercedes-Benz Citaros has entered service this week at Go North East (GNE). Based at Washington depot, the buses include audio visual next stop announcements, which GNE rightly said will be a boon for visually or hearing impaired people. Other onboard features include free WiFi and comfortable high-backed coach-style seating. The vehicles are dedicated to ‘Connections 4,’ the new name and number for the operator’s M1 service connecting Houghton-le-Spring, Washington, Concord and Heworth. The service runs up to every 10 minutes during the day on Mondays to Saturdays and up to every 15 minutes on Sundays and half-hourly during the evening.
