Brussels order secured by Iveco Bus is for 141 articulated hybrid electric Urbanways
Iveco Bus has signed a framework agreement with STIB-MIVB (Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company) for the supply of 141 articulated 18m hybrid electric buses that will enable the operator to increase the capacity of its network by a third by the end of 2019.
Each vehicle is capable of carrying up to 103 passengers.
The five year agreement will see Urbanway vehicles delivered to the operator together with a package covering planning, construction, supply, implementation, delivery of spare parts and battery pack maintenance as well as all traction components.
Iveco says that the vehicles combine an electric traction system with a Euro VI engine and latest-generation energy storage system.
The powertrain management system is designed to optimise fuel consumption and reduce emissions while recovering and storing the kinetic energy released during braking.
An ‘Arrive & Go’ function enables operation in 100% electric mode with zero emissions when approaching and pulling away from being stationary.
Fuel consumption per vehicle is reduced by 30% and CO2 emissions can also be reduced by up to 30% compared to diesel equivalents. That’s a 35-tonne reduction in CO2 every year – the weight of two buses.
