Maxson Goh meets the team behind Arriva Midlands’ successful 25-plate Electroliner launch
Lately, 25-plate vehicles have been creating quite a buzz, with examples from across the UK dominating the ‘Deliveries’ section in the past two issues of CBW. Still want more? Well ask and you shall receive.
It all began at the Young Bus Professionals Spring Conference in late February, where I had the pleasure of meeting Phil Cummins, UK Bus Regional Engineering Director at Arriva. Phil, a seasoned professional with over 40 years of industry experience and two decades as a director at Arriva, was one of the speakers at the conference. I got the opportunity to speak to him after his presentation, where he kindly extended an invitation for CBW to visit Arriva’s Thurmaston depot to look at its newly delivered Wrightbus Streetdeck Electroliners.
Naturally, I couldn’t pass up such an opportunity. These buses were as fresh as can be, so much so that they weren’t even allowed on the roads at the time due to their pre-registered 25-plates, valid only from 1 March 2025. Fast forward a week, I found myself in a city full of green buses, with endless examples of pre-facelift Electroliners and Kite GBs whisking passengers around to their destinations. Among them, the occasional facelifted Electroliner stood out – the very bus type I had come to see.
