Almost 20 buses gathered in the city to mark 50 years of the PTE and 40 years since the founding of the transport museum, reports Nick Larkin

The largest ever parade of preserved buses through Manchester commemorated 50 years since the formation of the local Passenger Transport Executive (PTE).

Seventeen participants represented every operator absorbed into SELNEC (South East Lancashire North East Cheshire) PTE in 1969 and its successor, Greater Manchester Transport, along with the first production standard SELNEC double-decker, Park Royal-bodied Leyland Atlantean VNB101L and 1982 Greater Manchester Atlantean ANA551Y, the only vehicle not from the Manchester Museum of Transport in the parade.
