PostBus makes an early move into low-emission Euro 6 buses Switzerland MAN Truck & Bus
Switzerland AG is to supply a total of 85 citybuses to PostBus Switzerland over the next two years. The order comprises both standard and articulated lowfloor MAN Lion’s City buses. Delivery of the first vehicles will take place in April 2014.
All the buses will comply with the Euro 6 emissions requirements, which will be obligatory with effect from January 1, 2014. MAN claims they are also highly economical with powerful six-cylinder commonrail diesel engines with outputs of 320 and 360hp. The vehicles are fitted with air-conditioning and are also wheelchair accessible via ramps and the specification also includes seating for passengers with restricted mobility. Topography-dependent transmission control contributes to fuel-saving operation. This system automatically activates the gear change program which most efficiently navigates the gradient, depending on whether it is on an uphill or downhill stretch.
The PostBus fleet currently consists of around 2,100 vehicles, of which 560 are buses of the MAN and Neoplan brands. Decisive for the award of the contract was the range of services offered by MAN, which is what convinced PostBus.
With a network of routes totalling 11,249 kilometres, PostBus is Switzerland’s leading provider of road-based passenger transport, carrying more than 350,000 commuters and leisure travellers every day. The company is constantly raising its profile as a public transport systems leader and is increasing its presence in Swiss cities and conurbations as well as in neighbouring countries.
“We are proud PostBus, Switzerland’s biggest and most traditional bus operator, decided in favour of vehicles from MAN. We are convinced this will have a positive effect, not only on our organisation, but on the Swiss bus market,” said Marcus Gossen, CEO of MAN Truck & Bus Switzerland.
