Q-Park has signed a deal with Scania (Great Britain) for the first four factory-ordered Scania Fencer f1 buses. The vehicles will carry the livery of Q-Park in partnership with Purple Parking and will provide a premium car park to airport terminal shuttle service for up to 3,000 passengers a day passing through London’s Heathrow Airport.
Based on Scania’s low entry 4×2 K BL chassis, the 10.9-metre buses will be equipped with Scania’s seven-litre DC07 113 280 horsepower engines which meet the Euro VI Step E criteria using SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology. The engines will drive through ZF Eco-Life 2 6AP1220B fully automatic six-speed gearboxes.
The air-conditioned interiors will feature 27 fixed seats and four tip-up seats, a wheelchair area with floor fastenings, and a large stainless steel luggage rack. A manual ramp will be provided for wheelchair users and Hanover destination signs will be installed. The drivers’ areas will include a microphone and CCTV.
“As a growing operation we need to replace our existing 8.9-metre buses with longer and larger vehicles,” comments Steve Rowlerson, Operations Manager for Q-Park Heathrow. “The Scania Fencer f1 not only represents a significant step up in size, but also offers an extremely large amount of luggage space, which is especially important to us as Heathrow caters for many passengers with large amounts of luggage making long haul international journeys. While these will be the first Scania buses to enter service with us, the brand is well known for its proven reliability and the quality of its back up and support services, so we had no hesitation opting for Scania. We also feel that Scania’s build quality and the modern look and appeal of the Fencer f1 fits perfectly with the upmarket, high-end standards that Q-Park looks to project as a premium service provider.”
Martin West, Sales Director – Bus and Coach for Scania (Great Britain), added: “We are delighted that Q-Park has become the first operator to place a factory order for the new Scania Fencer f1 and I would like to publicly thank its team for their confidence in Scania and the exciting new Fencer product. Since its launch earlier this year, the Fencer has attracted unprecedented interest from the industry. We now look forward to fulfilling this important order and working with Q-Park to ensure travellers passing through Heathrow enjoy the very best possible transfer experience aboard these new generation, state-of-the-art vehicles.”
