Operators in the Highlands and Islands have always drawn the attention of enthusiasts, with many books having been written chronicling their histories, often full of nostalgic monochrome or faded colour images of a bygone era when the services they provided were at the heart of local life in a time before car ownership was common. But what is it like to be at the heart of such an operation here and now? What work is there to sustain it, and what does the future hold? Whilst on a recent trip north, I stopped off in the small port town of Stromness to speak to the eponymous Jimmy and Vega of J&V Coaches.
