Auckland Transport (AT), the largest public transportation agency in New Zealand, and serving the country’s largest city, Auckland, is optimising its operations and efficiency with Optibus Planning and Scheduling.

The agency’s transport network, which includes trains, ferries and cycling as well as buses, the city’s primary mode of transportation, provides over 90 million passenger trips per year.

With Auckland’s population expected to grow 30% by the early 2030s, and the region as a whole projected to account for about half of the entire country’s population growth between 2018 and 2048, improving the city’s public transport system to accommodate that growth has become a priority for Auckland Council and the New Zealand Government.

To optimise the network and attain the highest level of ridership possible, Auckland Transport needed an advanced planning and vehicle scheduling solution to enable fast and collaborative working within and between their planning and scheduling teams; facilitate data imports and exports and validation; optimised route planning and scheduling abilities, and; visualised the impact of service changes on operations, and selected Optibus’ planning and scheduling tools to help it achieve its aims.

Optibus’ Planning Module uses a combination of map, satellite and street level pictures to let planners visualise and plan bus routes quickly and effectively. OPTIBUS
