The 50th Showbus event this year will be the last, though a ‘flyby’ will continue, reports Nick Larkin

This year sees the 50th in the series of bus displays started by Martin Isles in January 1973 with a rally at Brunel University. The event soon established itself as the biggest annual event on the enthusiast and industry calendar, one year topping over 500 entries, and combining as it always has preserved vehicles with the latest industry equipment.

However, organisers have decided that the 50th Showbus display will be the last and it is hoped to go out on a high. The display will be held at its recent home, the Hertfordshire County Showground near St Albans, on 25 September. It is hoped several buses which appeared at the 1973 Brunel event will enter, including the recently restored open top ex-Eastern National Bristol KSW used by Sir Paul McCartney’s group Wings on its tour of Europe.
