Österreichische Postbus AG, more commonly known as just Postbus, has signed an agreement with Solaris for up to 106 battery-electric and hydrogen buses for service throughout Austria, to be delivered between 2022 and 2025, with options for the period to 2028.
Postbus, the largest operator in Austria, will take up to 24 of the latest zero-emission Urbino 9 LE electric buses and up to 82 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses. The contract follows a previous order for hydrogen buses from Solaris by Postbus, which included the delivery of 40 Urbino 12 hydrogen buses.
The hydrogen buses are powered by 70kW fuel cells and driven via an axle containing electric motors. The hydrogen is stored in gaseous form in five tanks with a total volume of 1,560 litres, mounted on the roof. Additionally, every vehicle will be equipped with a Solaris High
Power battery.
Postbus could also take a number of 9-metre Urbino 9 LE electric buses, the youngest member of the electric bus family offered by Solaris. Equipped with a central electric motor, these buses will be powered by a set of Solaris High Energy batteries with a total capacity of about 280kWh, and have a capacity of 65 passengers.
Solaris has been present in Austria since 2003 and so far has delivered over 400 buses to 40 towns and cities in the country, of which almost 70 are zero-emission vehicles.
