The achievement of the England Lionesses in reaching the Women’s Euro 2022 final on Sunday 31 July gripped the nation, and Reading Buses showed its support by adding a special message of encouragement to its tickets. The operator added a header saying ‘Come on Lionesses! #hergametoo’ to all tickets issued on-bus in the build-up to the Euro final.

“We wish the Lionesses every success in their bid to beat Germany,” said Robert Williams, Chief Executive Officer at Reading Buses in the run up to the event. Having also acknowledged the achievement of the England men’s team in reaching the final of the European Championships last year, Robert added: “We are now delighted to celebrate this latest soccer accomplishment.”

Captained by Leah Williamson, the England women’s team went on to win the match at London’s Wembley Stadium 2-1.

Nottinghamshire operator Trent Barton was quick off the mark in celebrating the victory, naming one of its buses after locally-born player Mary Earps, who comes from West Bridgeford.
