Ride-sharing app Uber has started to offer connections via coach and train through its new online travel platform
Uber’s door-to-door product Uber Travel has joined with a number of national partners to expand the modes of transport it offers across the UK. Uber users can now book journeys through National Express, megabus and National Rail via Uber Travel, which uses the Omio transport platform.
Research by Uber found that almost 3 in 5 Brits said they are now more likely to holiday in the UK over going abroad, and when it comes to travelling, they favour a low-cost option with almost half stating this is the most important factor when choosing where to travel. Two-fifths said they prioritise taking the most direct route to their destination, whilst over a third said they wanted a hassle-free booking experience. Uber users who book their coach or rail travel on the Uber app will also receive 10% of the cost of their booking back as Uber credits, for use on future journeys, travel bookings or Uber Eats deliveries.
Andrew Brem, General Manager at Uber UK, said: “Uber users have been able to book rides, bikes, boat services and scooters on the Uber app for a number of years now. We’re thrilled to expand Uber Travel, adding the UK’s best travel services across rail and road creating the ultimate door-to-door travel experience.”
Chris Hardy, Managing Director at National Express UK Coach, added: “We pride ourselves on offering our customers convenient and great value travel on the newest and greenest coach fleet in the UK. Being part of the Uber Travel expansion means that Uber users can easily access safe and reliable coach travel that is great for the pocket and the environment. We are excited to see customers take advantage of the new offering.”
