Bus Users UK is looking for new Trustees with the energy and drive to make public transport more accessible. The charity campaigns for inclusive, accessible transport and handles complaints, promotes active and sustainable travel and strives to improve bus and coach services for everyone. Its Trustees are pivotal in guiding this work and it is now seeking new members to broaden and strengthen its Board through skills, knowledge, diversity and lived experience. The charity says it is particularly keen to hear from under-represented groups including people from Black and Asian backgrounds, disabled people and LGBTQ+ communities. It is also looking for experience in fundraising, voluntary sector governance, and transport planning and policy in local or central government.
Chief Executive of Bus Users UK Claire Walters explained: “Bus passengers are uniquely diverse among transport users and span every location, profession, social group and community. So it’s crucial that our staff and board are equally diverse in order to understand and represent this broad spectrum of interests and transport needs. Above all we are looking for candidates who share our values and will make a positive contribution to our work through sound judgement, creative thinking and an inclusive approach.”
The role of Trustee is unpaid, with expenses provided for travel and other agreed costs. The closing date for applications is Monday 3 October.
