Following the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, a joint statement was made by The Coach Tourism Association (CTA), Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT), Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the UK Coach Operators Association (UKCOA) to coach operators, who will be seeing increased demand for coach hires to London as the capital becomes a focal point for many who wish to pay their respects.
The trade bodies said that they are liaising with Transport for London to finalise the arrangements for coaches entering the capital and locations to set down and pick up passengers, and to park. Some restrictions are already in force and coach bays in Victoria Embankment and Park Lane may well be required for other purposes during the period of mourning and leading to the state funeral. Other coach bays in the centre of London may also close at short notice.
“It may well be necessary for coaches to set down their passengers short of central London, but at a location where it is easy for them to continue their journey by tube or rail. We will keep trade body members updated though messages and on our website as information becomes clearer,” operators were told in a letter signed by all four trade bodies.
