Classic buses and some modern counterparts worked three days of intensive services for Stagecoach South during the 2022 Goodwood Revival. NICK LARKIN reports

A 1963 Southdown Leyland double-decker with a full load of passengers, many of the men in hats and ladies in miniskirts, lights blazing on an evening service. Not an old photo but 2022 reality on a truly unique bus operation run by Stagecoach South.

The Goodwood Revival brings the world’s greatest historic motorsport event and a huge number of other attractions to the legendary Sussex race circuit. The 150,000 visitors, almost all clad in 1960s or earlier style attire, have got to get there somehow, and traffic chaos is usually the order of the day. Matters are helped considerably by the bus service, with vehicles from the Stagecoach heritage fleet joining modern machinery, Stagecoach Devon providing several vehicles this year.
