During his visit to the Western Isles earlier this year to report on Lochs Motor Transport, Richard Walter spoke with two local bus drivers who both share an interest in all things coach and bus

It’s not at all unusual to find that many of the drivers employed by bus companies are also enthusiasts and are extremely knowledgeable about the industry. Whilst over on the Western Isles last June I met with Donald Macarthur and Steven Macaskill, who both drive buses and are well known for their considerable interest and appreciation of the vehicles that they drive.

Donald told me: “Being born in December 1988, my earliest memories of buses date from the early ‘90s and from being at my grandparents’ house at Cameron Terrace, right next door to the depot of Lochs Motor Transport. The 1990s were a fascinating time for that company with a number of former Scottish Bus Group buses and coaches being operated – mostly Duple-bodied Fords.
