Go-Ahead Group-owned East Yorkshire’s popular Scarborough open-top Beachcomber buses are set to return for this year’s summer season. The services will run up and down the town’s North and South bays on weekends and school holidays from Saturday 1 April until the end of summer, supplemented by additional buses during the school holidays and weekends from 1 July until 3 September.
Ben Gilligan, East Yorkshire’s Managing Director, said: “We’re really excited for the return of our Beachcomber service this summer season. Scarborough has always been a very popular tourist destination, and rightly so. We’re looking forward to helping everyone experience the best of the British summer.”
Elsewhere, the operator will be increasing the number of daytime buses between York, Beverley and Hull from 2 April, with the number of buses in some areas doubling during the week and on Saturdays. East Yorkshire’s Head of Commercial Stuart Fillingham said: “Increased connections between Hull, Beverley, Market Weighton and York has always been a popular request from our customers, so we’re very pleased to be able to make this change to support their lifestyles – whether that be work, education or leisure travel.
“We’re also glad that our customers will be able to benefit from quicker journeys into York when compared to the 46, giving them a chance to better explore this marvellous city, as well as better connections to its railway station.”
