As the 2023 Association of Local Bus Company Managers conference approaches, we take a look at some of the sponsors and suppliers who will be in attendance

It’s been a while since CBW reported from an ALBUM conference; 2019 to be exact. A lot has happened in the intervening three years, so it is nice to be able to report that preparations are under way at Lothian Buses in Edinburgh, which will host the 2023 ALBUM Conference. Most within the industry will already no doubt be familiar with ALBUM, the Association of Local Bus Company Managers, which in its own words exists to provide a forum to exchange best practice among its members and to influence policy, for the promotion of high quality services that encourage more people to travel by bus; considering the huge changes and challenges the industry is facing with decarbonisation, driver shortages and decreased passenger numbers, such a forum seems more important now than ever before.

The theme of this year’s conference will be ‘the changing face of our industry’ with a focus on what it calls the four pillars of policy, customers, products and people. The programme of speakers and discussions will celebrate different areas of the industry and explore how it can navigate future challenges and maximise opportunities.

With around 150 members representing the municipal and independent bus operators in the UK, it has separate marketing, engineering, finance and operation groups which meet regularly to discuss issues and share best practice. There are also numerous associate members, including industry suppliers, or which many will be at the conference in Edinburgh on 25 and 26 April.
