A look back to March 26 for this week’s Big Picture, when the Leicester Transport Heritage Trust (LTHT) commemorated the 60th anniversary of local operator Browns Blue becoming part of Midland Red. As we reported at the time, the event was well attended despite the rain, which photographer Emily Whitlam used to her advantage for some evocative images.

BMMO 5919, an S23, represents the final in-house design of single-deck bus built by the Midlands operator and was new in 1968. With 51 seats, it has a 10.5-litre engine, and SCG four-speed semi-automatic gearbox. Its rain-soaked companion, Arriva’s Enviro400 YX72 OEO, is some 54 years its junior.
