Hydrogen-powered Solaris buses will be delivered to Duisburg operator Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (DVG) in 2024-25. The operator will take delivery of 25 Urbino hydrogen buses in an order comprising eleven 12-metre version and 14 articulated 18-metre vehicles. Deliveries are scheduled for 2024-2025.
The order marks the first step for DVG in its journey to transform its fleet to emission-free by 2030. “With the order of the first 25 hydrogen buses we are taking another important step towards making public transport in Duisburg completely emission-free and sustainable. With this transformation, we will make a decisive contribution to climate protection and to increasing the quality of life in Duisburg’, explained DVG CEO Marcus Wittig.

The only by-product of operating the Urbino hydrogen buses is water vapour. The Urbino 12s will use 70kW fuel cells and 160kW motors, while the Urbino 18s will use 100kW fuel cells and a 240kW motor. The buses will use a CO2 heat pump for heating and will be fitted with safety systems including for the detection of pedestrians and cyclists in the driver’s blind spot.
