As a record breaking number of race spectators enjoyed another Max Verstappen win at the Northamptonshire circuit, Richard Sharman was at the track to look at the operations put in place to get them there

If you are a regular reader of CBW you will know that we have covered the British Grand Prix for a number of years now, simply because it is one of the largest gatherings of both coaches and buses in the UK, so there is always something of interest to be seen.

One thing that is noticeable is that year on year the appetite for Formula 1 is growing fast, and this surge in interest has been put down to the Netflix documentary series ‘Drive to Survive,’ which first premiered in 2019. Drive to Survive provides a mixture of on-track drama, behind-the-scenes insight, heartwarming moments, laughs, anger and tears, and has ultimately captivated viewers around the world, and has brought a new generation of Formula 1 fans to the track.

This evidence of Formula 1’s rising profile is evident when you look at the numbers. In 2022, Silverstone welcomed the largest crowd the British Grand Prix had ever seen, with 400,000 spectators across the weekend; this year that number increased to 480,000, breaking the previous attendance record.
