The industry did not escape the ravages of Storm Babet, with many services being affected by flood water and other disruption. One series of posts online which caught our eye were from Group Engineering Director at Wellglade Group John Bickerton, showing the flooding at the group’s depot in Derby. In a post which summed up the ‘can do’ spirit of the industry whenever it finds itself in such situations, and the determination to run a service against the odds, John said:

“A memorable week, and continuing an amazing year. A week which absolutely cements my faith in an amazing team and a supportive industry, to help us all do the very best even in the worst circumstances.

”Seven days ago there was 12” of river water running through our Derby depot’s workshop and offices.

”Six days ago [Operations Manager] Kurt Cappello led an amazing team to turn out a full service from a field without lights or running water.
