Emily Whitlam takes a look at some of the buses and coaches in service in and around the Norwegian city of Tromsø
Earlier this year, I visited Tromsø, a city which is located in the North of Norway. Nestled between snow-capped mountain peaks, navigating this winter wonderland is relatively simple with the help of mobile ticketing. Both the ferry and bus services are run by the same company, Tide Buss (branded as ‘Troms Fylkestrafikk’), which operates a fleet of over 170 vehicles.
The operator’s fleet consists mainly of single-deck Volvo 8900s, of which it has 167, although Tide recently invested in three brand new biofuel-powered Setra double-deck coaches for its route 100, which travels between Narvik Bussterminal, some 230km to the south, and Tromsø Prostneset bus station. The Euro VI coaches are equipped with defibrillators, USB sockets, refrigerators and coffee machines, ensuring passenger comfort and safety for all who use the service. Six Volvo 9700s are also incorporated in Tide Buss’ fleet.
