A special event has marked seven decades of the GS model, a popular and unusual type in the London Transport fleet, and shown off some of the unsung heroes of the service vehicle fleet, reports Nick Larkin
A great event celebrated seventy years of London Transport’s Guy GS model and paid tribute to the ‘Cinderellas’ of bus fleets – the service vehicles. Never intended to be the most prestigious members of London Transport fleet member, two vehicle types were the subject of special tributes at TransportFest.
Firstly the 70th anniversary Guy Special GS class was celebrated with a display of nine examples for the London Bus Museum-organised event, held at Brooklands.
Secondly, service vehicles, including four which began their careers as AEC STL double-deckers, were also given star billing.
More than 100 vehicles took part in the event. Stagecoach London Wrightbus Electroliner LV73 LLH was used on connecting service 462 to the site. London Bus Museum spokesman Deryck Fill said: “A huge crowd enjoyed the day and there were many happy faces. We had great weather and this has been our most successful TransportFest yet.”
