The Blackburn Bus Company is organising a special weekend of events to mark the end of a quarter of a century of Volvo B10BLE operation, reports Jonathan Welch
One of the last fleets of Volvo B10BLE buses in regular service is reaching the end of the road as Transdev prepares to withdraw its remaining examples of the once-common pioneering low-floor bus model. Usually seen on the company’s Blackburn Bus Company Valleyline, 2 and 4 services, the type has been in service with Transdev for over 25 years.
With the end in sight, Transdev has organised a special weekend for fans to say goodbye. Held on 15 and 16 June, the company will be using as many of its remaining Wright Renown-bodied B10BLEs as possible. On Saturday 15 June, the company says it will use as many of the type on its Valleyline service as possible, whilst the following day, Sunday 16 June, will see two of the B10BLEs operate trips on a variety of routes across Blackburn, including journeys on the 1, 4, 7, Valleyline, and Hotline between 1000 and 1730hrs. The buses will run as duplicates a few minutes after the normal journeys. Buses will leave Blackburn for Darwen on route 1 at 1010hrs, returning at 1042hrs from Darwen. A circular service will operate on route 7 departing Blackburn at 1110hrs and Accrington at 1142hrs. The bus will then operate a Valleyline service departing Blackburn for Clitheroe at 1235hrs, returning from there at 1318hrs. After a short break, a journey will be operated on route 4 departing Blackburn at 1445hrs followed by the Hotline route from Blackburn to Preston at 16.05hrs, returning from Preston at 1655hrs.
