S&B Automotive Academy has invested in a set of cable-free mobile column lifts from workshop equipment supplier Totalkare to modernise its vehicle lifting provision as part of its market-leading automotive training.

The T8DC mobile column lifts from Totalkare were initially loaned for use in the IRTE Bus & Coach Skills Challenge, hosted by S&B Automotive Academy in June 2024. The Challenge, supported by the DVSA, showcases the best in road transport engineering, testing the skills of PSV engineers, technicians, and apprentices from across the UK.

Having been impressed by the wireless nature and the flexibility of the T8DC mobile column lifts, S&B Automotive Academy says it elected to make the lifts a permanent fixture in its training centre, enabling students to get hands-on experience with the latest in mobile vehicle lifting technology.

Richard Belton, Quality Director at S&B Automotive Academy, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition: “Totalkare’s mobile column lifts have really impressed us. The quality and reliability are outstanding, and the cable-free aspect provides excellent flexibility in our training centre. These lifts will significantly enhance the learning experience for our students, allowing them to train on equipment that is at the forefront of automotive engineering and a common fixture in commercial vehicle workshops and bus and coach depots across the country.”

Area Sales Manager for Totalkare James Phare added: “We were pleased to support the IRTE Skills Challenge through the loan of our T8DC lifts, which are designed to meet the demanding needs of modern workshops. They are incredibly easy to manoeuvre, and the cable-free feature eliminates trip hazards, making the workshop a safer place to work. We are delighted that S&B Automotive Academy has subsequently been impressed enough with them to purchase the set permanently – they are sure to benefit as the Academy develops the engineers, technicians and workshop managers of the future.”
