READING BUSES

At the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Awards on 19 September, municipal operator Reading Buses won the Passenger Transport Award, presented to companies to recognise achievements of outstanding improvements in passenger service, implementing new technology, equipment or information management, demonstrating improvements in organisation or human resources and championing environmental sensitivity.

Reading Buses faced competitors in the category from rail operator Greater Anglia and Blackpool Transport.

The Reading Buses nomination highlighted the company’s work in revolutionising the way people pay for travel in Reading, including its early adoption of mobile and contactless ticketing and tap-on, tap-off introduced in November 2023.

The operator’s success in recruiting new drivers was also highlighted as well as the continued success of partnerships with local authorities, including the Reading All-Bus multi-operator ticket. The company also showcased its on-going commitment to investment in its fleet, including the introduction of seven new buses for its London Line 702 and Flightline 703 routes which have been designed to offer an elevated level of comfort and customer experience.

Chief Executive Officer Robert Williams, who received the award on the night, said: “This award is a fantastic endorsement of the work put in by our team to provide the best possible service for the residents of Reading and wider Thames Valley area.”
