The Traveline Scotland app and website now provide a more functional and more informative user experience

Traveline Scotland has launched its new website and app, providing improved travel information for journeys across Scotland. The service, which Traveline says was delivered using a collaborative approach with transport operators and Transport Scotland, includes information on all public transport modes, including cycle schemes, and provides detail on tickets available and the cost for the whole journey.

Funded by the Scottish Government, and designed using feedback from the public, Traveline Scotland now allows users to tailor their search results to highlight features such as the quickest route, fewest changes, step free access, or the route with the greenest carbon footprint. The improvements also include a refresh of the most popular features including the journey planner, timetables, next departures, travel updates and more.

Delivery of the refreshed website and new mobile application is a commitment outlined in the Scottish Government’s Programme for Government 2024-25. Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop said: “I am pleased that following our Programme for Government announcement and recent publication of the Smart, Digital, Integrated Ticketing and Payment Delivery Strategy, we are quickly following up with improvements to Traveline Scotland, introducing a new look website and mobile app, with more innovative features for people to use and enjoy.

“The additional information provided will now help people to make better informed decisions for their travel, including on price or eco-friendly choices, and is one of the first developments in our commitment to improve the quality of public transport journey planning services across Scotland.

“By making it easier for people to choose public transport that suits their requirements, we’re helping more people to leave the car at home and choose more sustainable travel. This is all part of the wider action we’re taking as part of our National Transport Strategy to make our transport system more accessible, affordable and available for all – enabling more people and communities to take climate action right across the country.”

Traveline Scotland’s John Elliot said: “We are delighted to launch our new website and app. This will be the first release of our upcoming enhancements to provide better journey planning information, including more information on fares, real time information and accessibility.

“Over the past few years, we have worked closely with Transport Scotland and operators in developing this new digital travel data service, and we look forward to continuing this collaboration to deliver better awareness and access to public transport, and support delivery of both the 2024 Smart, Digital, Integrated Ticketing and Payments Delivery Strategy and future improvements to Scotland’s journey planning services.”
