Switch Mobility has delivered the province of Uttar Pradesh’s first electric double-deck bus to the city of Lucknow. The new 65-passenger Switch EiV22 was launched by Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath. It is expected to provide a bus service that could help to reduce traffic problems and improve the environment in urban areas.
The Chief Minister also announced a 50% discount on tickets for women passengers travelling aboard the electric bus, an announcement which the Hindustan Times says ‘made the auditorium reverberate with thunderous applause.’ He also announced to provide free travel facility to women on services operated on a heritage route every Saturday morning.
After flagging off the bus, the CM took a ride with children who learned about the features of the bus. “Being electric, this bus service will help reduce pollution. Similar double-decker electric bus services will be launched in other major cities of the state soon,” he said.
A 10% discount is also offered for passengers using digital payments, and the bus is reported to be fitted with ‘as many as five’ CCTV cameras, whilst a panic button has been installed ‘for the safety of women.’ It is also fitted with real-time tracking.
