National Express West Midlands has announced a new partnership with digital identity firm Yoti to accept digital Student IDs on its buses. Students can now download the free Student ID and present this as proof of student status when travelling on National Express buses in the West Midlands and Coventry, helping drivers and revenue inspectors to quickly confirm student discount tickets have been correctly issued.

With a verified Student ID, students can quickly and easily prove they are a student, without having to show a physical student card, says Yoti. The digital ID displays only the key information, such as their photo, university email, and verified student status, directly to businesses, enhancing students’ privacy and security while providing businesses with reliable confirmation of student status.

Head of Customer Experience at National Express West Midlands Adam Rideout said: “As a leading public transport operator, we are continually seeking solutions to enhance our service quality and passenger experience. The new Student ID feature from Yoti will make it even easier for customers to provide proof of student status when travelling on our services and benefit from cheaper travel.”

CEO at Yoti Robin Tombs added: “We’re pleased to introduce our latest product feature, helping millions of students around the UK to prove their student status quickly, easily and securely from their phone. Young people can now prove their age, identity and student status, all from one secure Digital ID. We’re delighted National Express West Midlands is the first to accept Student IDs, helping students prove their status and access discounted travel tickets more easily.”
