Palmer Energy Technology has announced that it is to supply a large-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to FirstGroup subsidiary FirstGroup Energy. Palmer Energy Technology was founded by Andy Palmer, the former CEO of Aston Martin and COO of Nissan. Under the terms of the partnership, the company will design, manufacture and deliver a bespoke BESS that meets decarbonisation ambition of FirstGroup in the bus sector, supporting its commitment to sustainability and the energy transition within the UK’s transport infrastructure.
The Palmer BESS incorporates the Brill Power Battery Management System, developed by the Oxford University spin-out. Craig Leake of FirstGroup commented: “Finalising this contract is a key step in our mission to deliver low-carbon, cost-effective transport solutions. Palmer Energy’s expertise has been integral in choosing them as a partner. We look forward to receiving the system and integrating it into our operations as we further enhance our commitment to net zero.”
Andy Palmer added: “We are thrilled to have reached this important stage in our partnership with FirstGroup. This agreement underscores our shared vision of decarbonising the transportation sector, and it paves the way for a reliable, efficient, and future-proof energy infrastructure solution.”
