The 2025 Leyland Society Gathering will take place near Matlock. THE LEYLAND SOCIETY

The annual event brings together all kinds of vehicles from the marque and its associated brands

The Leyland Society was formed in 1998 with the aim of preserving the heritage of Britain’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer for future generations to appreciate. Every year the Society holds a ‘Leyland Gathering’ where owners of Leyland buses and lorries, as well as those produced by other member of the Leyland Group, can display their vehicles to members of the public.

This year the Society says it is pleased to announce that its Gathering will be held at Rowsley South station on the Peak Rail Heritage Railway near Matlock, Derbyshire, on Sunday 29 June. The heritage line forms part of the old Midland Railway route between Manchester Central and London St Pancras which closed in 1968, and operates on a line approximately four miles long between Rowsley South station and Matlock station’s platform 2, where there is an interchange with local rail services.

Alongside the Gathering, the site offers a large free car park, tea room, toilets and souvenir shop at the station and the opportunity to ride on the railway. Rowsley South station is approximately five miles from the Peak District town of Matlock that can be accessed from the M1, A6 and A52. The organisers say that entries are invited and welcomed from owners of Leyland vehicles and those produced by the Leyland Group (including Albion, Scammell, AEC, Daimler, Guy, Thorneycroft, Austin, Morris, BMC and Bristol). Vehicle entry forms will be included with the Society’s quarterly publication ‘Leyland Torque’ or are available directly from the Society by email on [email protected] or through its Facebook page.
