McGill’s expands with new Aberdeen tour

The ambitious independent group is continuing its expansion further away from its roots with a new Aberdeen open-top tour. Jonathan Welch was at the launch

Down in the south-west corner of England, First Bus’ decision to scale back its tourist routes and withdraw open-top vehicles for the 2025 season might be an informed decision from a business perspective in an area where margins are not high, but it’s one which has been met with understandable disappointment. At the opposite end of the UK, in north-east Scotland, McGill’s is continuing its expansion and diversification with a new Aberdeen open-top sightseeing tour.

The new Aberdeen Adventurer builds on the company’s existing bright orange tours in Edinburgh, Stirling and Dundee, as well as adding to the portfolio of work catered for by its outstation in the Granite City. Originally opened as a northern base for its Flixbus commitments the outstation has recently also been used to allow McGill’s to bid for local contracts, a move which has seen the Midland Bluebird brand appear on Aberdeen City Council-funded route 14 since November last year.
