The national final of the UK Bus Driver of the Year competition will take place in Blackpool on Sunday 14 September and entries from operators large and small are rolling in, but the organisers say there is still room for more. Consequently, they say, the deadline has been extended to 31 May. Competition Secretary Paul Mackay said: “This gives time for any other companies to join in by entering drivers.”

Joe Mackie, Chairman of the UK Bus Driver of the Year Association, which organises the competition, said: “We are particularly keen to have more entries from all sectors of the industry as the national final is a fantastic place for operators of all sizes to showcase their drivers’ skills and especially their commitment to excellent customer service.”

Last year’s overall winner, and Bus Driver of the Year 2024, was Thomas Gilhooley of Lothian East Coast Buses. He was victorious in a field of the best drivers entered by the major bus groups, municipal operators and independent companies.

Bus companies that become involved are also invited to make a bus available for use in the driving tests, say the organisers, while manufacturers and suppliers are welcome to take advantage of the many sponsorship opportunities that are available.

Operators still wishing to take part which haven’t yet registered can find information on the event’s website or by contacting Paul MacKay on [email protected].
