A group of 32 children from four schools in Weston-super-Mare had a day out by coach as part of the Rotary Children’s Fun Day initiative thanks to local operator Bakers Dolphin. Rotary Weston-super-Mare organised the day out for vulnerable and disadvantaged children as part of a national initiative in conjunction with the charity Kids In Mind.

Bakers Dolphin driver Richard Adams collected the children from their schools to start the day with breakfast supplied by Morrisons, and then it was on to Longleat where the children enjoyed a safari through enclosures of lions and African animals and a lake cruise to get a close up look at sea lions and Gorilla Island.

President Elect of Rotary Weston-super-Mare Audrey Kinvig said: “This is an annual event and local schools select the children that they feel need the boost of a special day out. Bakers Dolphin always provides a first-class service and it makes a real difference to the children to have such a fun day away from the issues that they face.”

Meanwhile, local charity Weston Hospicecare has also benefitted from the company’s generosity. It held its annual Mendip Challenge on Sunday 1 June, and Bakers Dolphin once again provided transport for charity walkers, supplying six coaches to assist with the running of the day and to carry walkers to starting points in Wells and Cheddar before they began their trek back to the finish line at Weston Cricket Club.

The charity has since reported that it has raised £78,000 and counting to continue supporting the hospice’s patients. Bakers Dolphin Sales and Marketing Director Amanda Harrington said: “We are proud to have supported the Mendip Challenge once again, as we have for the past several years. It is one of Weston Hospicecare’s landmark events and it raises incredible funds for this amazing local charity, which supports people in their time of need.

“As a Weston-super-Mare business, Weston Hospicecare has a special place in our hearts and we’re pleased to be a part of this annual challenge.”
