RICHARD SHARMAN

Time moves fast in this industry, and in what seems like the blink of an eye tech company FlixBus has reached another major milestone. Richard Sharman sat down for an update with FlixBus UK Senior Managing Director Andreas Schorling for an update on the brand’s strategy, growth, and what comes next

The UK express coach market has been on something of a rollercoaster in the last five years, with FlixBus joining the UK’s motorway network at possibly the worst time, just before a pandemic. But in the UK like its other operations around the globe, it has continued on its mission to turn the world green one country at a time. Senior Managing Director Andreas Schorling has now been at the wheel of FlixBus UK’s operation for half a decade and in that time he has never doubted the company’s model would succeed here: “As we’ve said from day one, we always aimed for market leadership. It is clear now that this is inevitable thanks to the momentum we have built,” he says. “As we complete phase three of our summer ramp up this July, we’re achieving very high frequencies on key relations across our network.

“To give you an idea of our progress over the last four years, we have over 200 vehicles on the UK’s roads this summer, bringing millions of passengers to over 80 destinations. Now, planning for next year is underway, and we look forward to delivering our long term strategy. Ultimately, passengers love our services and we will continue our hypergrowth eventually leading to market leadership. “When we entered the market, the industry questioned whether we would be around in a couple of years. Legacy players had what seemed like unshakeable relationships with operators – some saw this as a moat. But fast forward to today, and we’ve established partnerships with some of the best operators in the UK, providing us unlimited scalability.”
