Transport for London (TfL) has opened a consultation on a proposal to make a temporary coach parking bay, on the Albert Embankment, permanent.

In May a temporary 45 metre off-peak coach parking bay was created at the site to replace some of the coach parking on Victoria Embankment that was removed due to the construction of the East-West Cycle Superhighway. TfL chose Albert Embankment as one of the alternative sites because it had existing coach facilities and provides easy access to central London.

TfL is now considering making this bay permanent. It would be in the same location as the existing temporary one, i.e. within the northbound bus lane, outside Camelford House. It would be provide space for three large coaches.

Coaches would be allowed to park free of charge at all times except 0700-1000hrs and 1600-2000hrs, Monday to Sunday. Coaches would be allowed to park for a maximum of one hour during operating times and would not be permitted to return within two hours.

These operating times would ensure the bus lane is kept clear during the morning and evening peak traffic hours and would be consistent with the operating times of the other parking bays on Albert Embankment.

Subject to feedback from this consultation, TfL would look to formally convert the temporary bay into a permanent bay before the end of this year.

The consultation closes on Sunday, September 27 2015.
