The 2016 Ipswich Bus Rally is to be held on Sunday, March 20, at Portman Road, using one of the car parks adjacent to the town’s football ground.

The free event is being coordinated by a team that has previously organised the Clacton Bus Rally, and the successful March 2015 Norwich Bus Rally. A network of free services will run from the rally site, including a frequent circular linking the railway station, bus stations and the Ipswich Transport Museum to the event.

The organisers are keen to welcome both classic and modern buses and coaches, with local bus operators and private individuals being invited to participate. A variety of sales stands will be trading from the museum site which will also begin its 2016 open season that day.

Organiser Richard Walker said: “Following the success of last year’s Norwich Bus Rally, I had the idea of running a similar event based in Ipswich.

“We are all enthusiasts involved in private and museum preservation of historic local buses, and believe that events like this are crucial to spreading the word to the public about the hard work we do, and that the industry continues to do.

“Buses are part of the fabric of everyday life and rarely get a second glance, but the Norwich Rally showed there was a widespread appreciation among the general public with hundreds of people turning out.

“We hope the Ipswich rally also proves a success, as we may then choose to organise future events in these places”.
