POLAND Solaris Bus & Coach has won a tender from Kraków City Transport for 60 Urbino 12s in a contract valued at €17 million. Delivery is scheduled for June 2016.
Compared with the previous version, the new Urbino has more pedestal-free seats and also offers a more spacious interior. Three USB charging points have been specified. In the ergonomic driving area, the driver’s seat has been raised by 5cm to provide better visibility. The distinct and modern look of the new Urbino has been awarded among others with the prestigious German iF Design Award.
While the buses will have Euro 6 Paccar (DAF) engines, an important innovation is that they will also feature braking energy recuperation. The kinetic energy recovered during the braking process may be stored in supercapacitors and reused to supply electric equipment on the bus. This solution helps deliver better fuel efficiency.
