Edinburgh Airport has dropped its highly controversial plans to charge coaches picking up and setting down French rugby fans £200 for the Six Nations game, which takes place at Murrayfield Stadium over the weekend of March 12 to 14.
CPT Scotland has been in discussion with the airport in the hope of alleviating problems for operators, drivers and passengers alike. Jeremy Tinsley, General Manager, CPT UK – Scotland told CBW: “All coaches arriving to collect rugby groups from chartered flights at the airport on March 12 must proceed to Ingleston Park & Ride where a segregated area has been reserved for coaches.
“Once arriving rugby passengers have cleared immigration and collected their baggage, they will be directed to arranged shuttle buses that will take them to the waiting coaches. If members have guides or reps meeting their groups, they can do so at the terminal and travel with them to the vehicles.
“On the return journey, coaches will drop-off on the left-hand side of Gogar Bridge Road, giving passengers a short walk to the terminal building.
“There will be no charge for coach parking at Ingleston. CPT is awaiting confirmation on the rugby drop-off area, but it is believed that if a charge is levied, it will be in line with standard rates.
“Normal non-rugby related coach parking business should use the existing coach parking arrangements, as should any coaches collecting rugby passengers who are arriving on scheduled flights. Standard charges apply.”
