RATP Dev has launched Extrapolitan, a new brand for its open-top sightseeing bus services.

The group described Extrapolitan as an international alliance bringing together RATP Group’s open top services and allowing independent operators to benefit.

Extrapolitan covers all the sightseeing activities operated by RATP Dev (Paris, New York, London, Windsor, Cardiff, Bath and Hong Kong). The alliance is also open to independent local operators wishing to take advantage of an international network in terms of business visibility and appeal.

Extrapolitan can address both business to business and business to consumer markets consistently via its website (www.extrapolitan.com).

RATP Dev said it will significantly accelerate the pace of its expansion in the sightseeing sector through Extrapolitan with new ad hoc activities and acquisitions, as well as through partner affiliation with the network.

François-Xavier Perin, CEO of RATP Dev, said: “Extrapolitan aims to bring together under a single banner the major sightseeing operators from all over the world and thereby combine each participant’s local expertise with the strength of an international network.

“In a sector where only tourism professionals currently operate, we are convinced that we have added value to offer thanks to our expertise and experience in urban transport, in particular in technical solutions, urban integration and dialogue with transport authorities.”

In a separate development, RATP Dev has launched a sightseeing service on Hong Kong’s regular tram lines.

RATP Dev, the tram network’s operator since 2009, decided to capitalise on the iconic tramway as well as the 45 million tourists visiting the city annually to propose a sightseeing service on its regular tram lines.
