The UK Bus Awards has announced that former transport minister Norman Baker has accepted an invitation to present the prizes at this year’s UK Bus Awards presentation ceremony on Wednesday, November 23.
As transport minister in the Coalition Government, Norman addressed three successive ceremonies in 2010, 2011 and 2012, earning a special award as a result. Following his departure from the House of Commons in last year’s General Election, he has accepted the post of Chairman of Bus Users UK.
UKBA Chairman Tony Depledge said: “We are delighted that Norman is able to join us in November.
“As a former buses minister, Norman knows all about the need for quality in the bus industry and has been a strong supporter of our mission to recognise and reward excellence and good practice throughout the UK bus industry.
“We work very closely with Bus Users UK, particularly on our unique Mystery Traveller checks on service delivery, so it will be great to welcome the organisation’s chairman to present our prizes.”
Entries for the 2016 competition have now closed, and the task of sorting them and preparing the judging packs is well underway. Judging will take place during late July and August.
The short-list for the 2016 competition will be announced at an invitation event at the Volvo Technical Centre in Warwick on October 6. The winners will be announced at the 21st annual presentation ceremony on November 23, at The Ballroom, South Bank, London.
