On February 1, 2018, Plymouth Citybus launched a new free mobile app, which allows users to plan, track and follow their bus in real time and buy tickets before boarding.

The new app displays journeys on an interactive map, and users can input their destination and find the fastest journey option, including walking times and when the next bus is due to depart.

Those unfamiliar with the area can use the app to follow their journey while on board the bus to see which stops are next and when they will arrive at their destination.

The new app also contains an improved ticket buying functionality, which works to the advantage of the new ticketing systems installed across the Plymouth Citybus fleet in November 2017. Once a ticket is purchased, the user scans the QR coded ticket on their phone screen at the reader and boards the bus.

Mark Collins, Head of Commercial & Marketing at Plymouth Citybus, said: “Following the launch of contactless across the Plymouth Citybus fleet at the end of 2017, this is another big step forward in us removing the barriers people have to travelling on buses around the city.

“Our old app was very popular and allowed users to buy and gift tickets and view news information. The new app however, completely transforms the user experience and allows our passengers to take more control of their journey in terms of planning their route and tracking their bus.

“The ability to buy your ticket before boarding also helps make the whole boarding process quicker as passengers can just scan and board without the driver needing to process anything. Together with contactless, this is helping us move towards the future of bus travel in Plymouth – fast, easy and cash-free.”

The app is available to download now for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play
