Go-Ahead London’s route 68 – a popular ‘hop-on/hop-off’ commercial service in Southend – is to recommence operation from Saturday, May 26.

As with last year, Route 68 will run hourly; the red and white open-top Plaxton President-bodied Volvo B7TL will follow a circular route from the Kursaal amusement park to Leigh Broadway.

Fares remain unchanged from 2017, with an adult day ticket available for £4. A group daily ticket – which allows up to five people unlimited rides throughout the day – is £10.

Following the upcoming May Bank Holiday, the service will return from Saturday, June 9 – running daily until Saturday September 1.

Compared to last year, the 68 will therefore serve Southend for an additional six weeks of the year; during the summer school holiday, it will run every 30 minutes as opposed to the hourly timetable used last year – the only exception being the late August Bank Holiday Monday (August 27).

Thomas Drake, of Go-Ahead London’s commercial department, is the ‘driving force’ behind the service. He commented: “We are very pleased route 68 will again take to the streets of Southend, with an enhanced frequency during the summer break and a longer overall operating period.

“This service has been really well received and we hope our regulars – plus some new users – take advantage of our competitive fares and improved timetable.”
