Recently published by Crowood Press, priced £29.95, is Richard Wallace’s East Kent Road Car Company Ltd – Services of the Golden Jubilee Era which takes the reader on a journey along all of the operator’s stage-carriage and express services in 1968, just before it became part of the National Bus Company.
The author says in his introduction that the book is designed to complement his earlier history, East Kent Road Car Ltd – A Century of Service 1916-2016, also published by Crowood Press, by providing more detail and using a completely different set of photographs.
“The aim is to take the reader on a journey in words and pictures through the towns and countryside of East Kent in its Golden Jubilee Era,” he says. “I hope it proves to be an enjoyable and interesting read.”
More than 250 photographs, some of them in colour, as well as route maps help illustrate the story, which covers the time just after the company celebrated its Golden Jubilee.
“As well as a comprehensive fleet list and garage summary, East Kent’s 1968 network map is reproduced and there are also details of the centenary celebrations that took place in 2016.
If route detail is what you’re after, this book quite literally covers the ground, or you can just enjoy looking at the images which recall a world that is long past.
