Every county has a coach operator that people in the industry and enthusiasts can instantly name, and if you said Cornwall then the response would more than likely be Roselyn. Richard Sharman paid a visit to the Par depot to find out how the operation looks in 2019, 72 years on from the Ede family starting out in the industry
As a teenager, and an enthusiast that worked in the bus industry, I was more than aware of the operations of Roselyn of Cornwall. I remember visiting the depot on numerous occasions, whilst on holiday in Cornwall, to photograph the collection of double-deckers they operated.
This fleet progressed from, in my era at least, Bristol VRTs to Leyland and then Volvo Olympians. Today, the mainstay of the school bus fleet is moving on to the next-generation of vehicles fit for school bus use.
The buses may have changed over the years, but the Ede family and their iconic depot, at least in enthusiast terms, remains a constant.
It was an honour to sit down with Jonathan Ede, the man in charge of Roselyn today, to talk about the current operation and some of its history.
