Lothian Country’s new Green Arrow coaches have attracted much attention at pre-launch events. Now they are in service, Jim McWilliam tried one out

The new Green Arrow express coaches for Lothian Buses’ expanded West Lothian network have featured many times in the press since their delivery, but only entered service on the last day of June. On the first Monday of operation, I found myself waiting in Linlithgow to board an early afternoon journey to the heart of Scotland’s capital city. There are two routes: EX1, which serves Bathgate, and EX2 to Linlithgow, both with a weekday frequency of every 30 minutes. The two routes combine/split at Ratho Station, although unusually they don’t have an even 15-minute frequency over this section of the route, instead leaving the city centre terminus with alternate 10- and 20-minute intervals.
