New Flyer of America has been awarded a contract to supply four battery-electric single-deck buses to New York’s Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA).
The Xcelsior CHARGE buses are expected to eliminate between 85 and 175 tons of harmful greenhouse gas emissions per bus per year, supporting CDTA’s drive to provide improved accessibility and mobility whilst reducing its carbon footprint.
CDTA, which provides multimodal transport in the Capital District of New York, serves a community of around 800,000 people, and carries over 16 million passengers per year.
In 2017, the Authority was awarded title of Mid-Sized Transit System of the Year by the American Public Transportation Association.
Charging facilities will be provided by sister company New Flyer Infrastructure Solutions, which will install the Siemens DC chargers.
Announcing the order, Chris Stoddart, President of New Flyer, said: “With its vision to drive sustainability in New York’s Capital District, New Flyer is proud to have been selected by CDTA to provide an industry-leading zero-emission solution including both the latest in electric bus technology and the charging infrastructure.”
Carm Basile, Chief Executive Officer, CDTA said: “The purchase of New Flyer’s Xcelsior CHARGE buses will help to further reduce CDTA’s environmental impact, and we look forward to integrating and testing the new technology as we pursue zero-emission transit in our communities.”
