Zeelo, the on-demand bus service provider, launched a new Gatwick Airport service on 8 August. Zeelo is working with Gatwick Airport with an aim to reduce the amount of its employees driving into work

Gatwick Airport is partnering with Zeelo to give its employees a new cost-effective and sustainable option to get to work.

The new shared bus service targets areas where Gatwick employees are currently poorly served by public transport and will help achieve the airport’s target of increasing the proportion of people travelling to work by sustainable means to 42% by 2020.

The first commuter service will operate between West Crawley and Gatwick, with additional routes in the pipeline. All passengers can expect a guaranteed seat, access to WiFi and device charging points at an all-inclusive rate, with flexible ticket options available through the Zeelo app.

With 61% of Gatwick employees electing to drive to work, Zeelo’s algorithm, RINA, has identified an area where Gatwick employees are currently poorly served by public transport. The service is tailored around the employees’ shift patterns, with early services scheduled to arrive at the airport from 0500hrs.

Zeelo will offer a limited free trial for Gatwick Airport employees to sign up; using the promo ‘GATWICK’ riders will recieve 20 rides free. A full service will then be launched on 27 August offering employees rides from as little as 88p.

The service includes eight rides in the morning and eight in the evening giving workers the flexibility and freedom to arrive and leave work when is necessary. The service will also include two convenient drop-off points, one at the North terminal and one at the South terminal.

Sam Ryan, Zelo CEO and Co-Founder, said: “For many people who live outside of big cities, travelling to and from work can often be a financial and logistical challenge. Not only can we make commuting easier for workers but also more affordable and sustainable.

“On top of this, employees can be more productive but pay less than they would if they owned a car. We’re delighted to be working with the forward-thinking, innovative team at Gatwick and can’t wait to serve their employees.”

Emma Rees, Head of Surface Transport at Gatwick Airport, added: “Gatwick Airport has a major focus on sustainability and this initiative further demonstrates our commitment to reducing emissions and congestion in the local area.

“The new Zeelo shuttle service provides another choice for airport employees to travel to work in a more sustainable fashion while maximising convenience and reducing their travel costs.”

Passenger Plus is operating the service for Zeelo with vehicles equipped for USB charging points and WiFi.
