Carlisle-based operator Reays Coaches has taken delivery of four Mellor Strata low-floor buses as the latest additions to its fleet. Each Strata has a passenger capacity of 22, and they are being deployed on Reays bus routes in Carlisle and the surrounding villages.

Kerrie Allison, Head of Sales and Marketing at Reays Coaches, said: “We estimate that each of the Stratas has already clocked up more than 70,000 kilometres since we took delivery of them earlier this year. They are in use every day doing the work they were purchased to carry out and so far we have experienced complete trouble free operation.

“It was great to see Mellor also make a point of contacting us several months after delivery to see how the vehicles are performing and this demonstrates their commitment to customer service and support.

“We are very happy with the build quality and operational performance of the Stratas, which are proving their worth in terms of fuel efficiency and the state-of-the-art features they provide to passengers. These include destination displays, WiFi and USB ports, just what you would expect to find in any other modern bus.”

Tom Morrison, Area Sales Manager for Mellor, said: “Reays Coaches is a long established and highly respected operator, providing an extensive range of services for their passengers. We are pleased to see four Stratas joining the fleet and becoming part of this quality service offering for customers across Cumbria and the north of England.”

Mellor describes the Strata as being engineered with accessibility in mind while offering variety of internal layout configurations to accommodate the needs of less able passengers. Its compact size and design ensures it is able to operate in areas that could prove problematic for some traditional, larger buses due to their size and weight.

In recent years the Strata has gained a reputation for being the model of choice for many operators due to its modern feel, performance and cost of ownership.

Renowned for being Cumbria’s largest independent bus and coach company, Reays’ fleet includes vehicles in a range of sizes to suit all requirements from seven seat minibuses through to 83-seater double-decker coaches.

Established in 1985, Reays Coaches is family owned and operated and has been recognised this year at the Cumbrian Family Business Awards as ‘Best Cumbrian Family Business’ and ‘Holiday Programme of the Year’ at the British Coach Tourism Awards.
